Transit declaration
Transit declarations are submitted electronically via the EDI. When the information has been submitted, the case will be assigned a Main Reference Number (MRN), which serves as the ID number of the transit procedure. A print-out, known as an Transit Accompanying Document, should accompany the means of transport to the customs office of destination during the transition period.
Normal procedure
Register the transit declaration via the EDI. The driver of the means of transport should contact the customs office of departure to present the goods and LRN, thus initiating the transit procedure. A guarantee for customs duties and other taxes should be provided to the customs office of departure. The customs officer locates the file and decides whether the transit can be started.
During the transition period, the customs officer will always print the accompanying document to accompany the consignment to the customs office of destination or to the consignee, if the consignee is an authorised consignee.
After the transition period, you will need to request a printout of the accompanying document, as it is no longer required to accompany the goods. However, you will receive an MRN or a barcode from the official, which should accompany the goods and indicate that they are under the transit procedure.
Simplified procedure
This simplification is known as “Authorised consignor” and requires a specific authorisation from us. It means that you register the transit declaration via EDI.
During the transition period, once we have approved your transit declaration, you should print the accompanying document to accompany the consignment to the customs office of destination or to the consignee, if the consignee is an authorised consignee.
There is no need to visit the customs office of departure to present the goods to start the transit procedure. Authorised consignors must provide a comprehensive guarantee for their transit operations.
