Handling incidents during transit
If an incident occurs during the transit of goods, you must report it to Swedish Customs. This can be done using our online service. Examples of incidents may include an unplanned reload, an accident, a broken seal, a change of route or something else that affects the transport.
There are fundamental rules for the transport of goods under the transit procedure. For example, the transport must arrive at the destination within a set time limit or follow a pre-established route. Unforeseen events may require you, the carrier, to deviate from these rules. In such cases, you must notify Swedish Customs.
Notification shall be submitted when:
- the carrier is forced to deviate from the pre-established route.
- seals are broken or tampered with in transit, due to circumstances outside of the carrier’s control.
- goods are moved from one means of transport to another under the supervision of Swedish Customs.
- goods are unloaded due to a dangerous situation or accident.
- an incident occurs that may affect the ability of the person responsible for the procedure, or the carrier, to fulfil their obligations.
- any of the constituent parts of a means of transport has changed (e.g., if a wagon is removed).
If you are in Sweden at the time of the incident, you must notify Swedish Customs. Use our Online Service, which can be accessed by the link below.
Once you have reported the incident, you will receive confirmation from Swedish Customs that we have received your notification. You should remain at the scene until we communicate further decisions. If we need additional information in order to make a decision, we will contact you using the contact details provided in your report.
