Pre-departure declarations
When exporting goods into the EU you are required to submit an pre-departure declaration to a customs authority. This means that some information about the goods should be submitted before the goods leave the EU.
The purpose of the pre-departure declaration is to protect the EU from dangerous goods and comply with the increased security standards of global trade.
There are three types of pre-departure declarations:
- Export declarations or declarations of re-exportation;
- Exit summary declarations;
- Transit declarations.
The most common way of submitting a pre-departure declaration is in the export declaration.
