To ensure that your trade partner is eligible for preferential tariff treatment when exporting goods, you need the correct type of proof of origin. You also need to be familiar with the applicable provisions for each certificate.

Invoice declarations, proof of origin and statements on origin are specific texts, on invoices or any other commercial documents, certifying the origin of a product.
If the value of the originating goods exceeds EUR 6,000, you will need authorisation to make out such certificates.

Commodity certificates EUR.1 and EUR-MED
The commodity certificates EUR.1 and EUR-MED are certificates of origin issued by the customs authorities in the countries of exportation.

Commodity certificate A.TR is issued by the exporting customs authority in the context of trade between the EU and Turkey of goods included in the scope of the Customs Union agreement.
Importer’s knowledge
The free trade agreement with Japan stipulates that importers can request preferential treatment without proof of origin from the exporter, which is known as importer’s knowledge. The importer must have access to all the necessary information and supporting documents to allow the customs authority of the importing country that the goods are original goods.

Commodity certificates should normally be issued at the time of exportation; however, in exceptional cases, you may issue commodity certificate EUR.1, commodity certificate EUR-MED, and commodity certificate A.TR. retrospectively.
