Branches of foreign businesses

Only legal entities can be assigned EORI numbers. This means that separate Swedish branches of legal entities cannot apply for EORI numbers, since they are not considered to be legal entities of their own. Instead, the parent company/head office needs to apply for an EORI number covering the entire company, including all EU branches. In Sweden, branches of foreign businesses have business registration numbers starting with the figures 516.

If the parent company/head office is established in another EU Member State the application for an EORI number has to be made in that Member State. If the parent company/head office is established in a country outside the EU, the application can be lodged in any Member State. In either case, though, it is important that you notify Swedish Customs of your EORI number, so that we can make cross references to the authorisations held by the Swedish branches.

Swedish branch where the parent company/head office has been assigned an EORI number in another Member State

In Swedish Customs national database, we make a cross reference between the Swedish branch and the EORI number of the parent company/head office, issued in another Member State. This EORI number is also the EORI number of the branch, and should be used in customs declarations when we begin to check EORI numbers in Sweden.

The branch will be registered under its business registration number, starting with the figures 516, and any authorisation will be connected to this registration number.

The address of the Swedish branch will be registered. This way, no mail from Swedish Customs will be sent to the parent company/head office.

Swedish branch with the parent company/head office in a non-EU country, applying for an EORI number in Sweden

The application for an EORI number must be lodged by the parent company/head office.

The parent company is assigned an EORI number (SE + 10 digits) starting with the figures 444. This EORI number is also the EORI number of the branch, and should be used in customs declarations as soon as we start validating EORI numbers in Sweden.

In Swedish Customs national database, the branch will be registered under its business registration number, starting with the figures 516, and any authorisation will be connected to this registration number. A cross reference between the 444-number of the parent company and the 516-number of the branch will be made.

The address of the Swedish branch will be registered. This way, no mail from Swedish Customs will be sent to the parent company/head office.
